Harry Kane has fiercely denied that he is suffering from World Cup burnout.

The Tottenham striker has gone 249 minutes without a goal after drawing another blank against Liverpool amid accusations that he is fatigued.

England boss Gareth Southgate put Kane on the bench for the friendly against Switzerland after claiming the centre forward needs a rest.

But Kane insists that he will answer back by scoring against Inter Milan tomorrow night.

Kane said: “People are always going to look for stuff, especially when you are a big part of the team and someone who is there to get the goals.

“As a team we can all do better and as the striker you get spoken about more, but I feel sharp and fit and if I wasn’t the manager would not be picking me.

“He believes in me, I believe in myself and hopefully I can score a couple of goals on Tuesday and it will be put to bed.”

Kane also denied that Tottenham had made a mistake by not making any summer reinforcements.

“I said in regard to signing players the gaffer believed we had a strong squad and he did not want to sign payers for the sake of it. It showed huge trust in the players and we have to repay it,” said Kane.

“Energy wise there was no fatigue but it was not good enough with the ball. We will bounce back - through the season we are one of he fittest squads and we will continue to be this year.”

Kane was, however, brutally honest about Tottenham’s performance against Liverpool.

“I don’t think we played well enough, we fought until the end and we could have nicked something but we have to be honest - we didn’t deserve to.

“We had a lot of possession and it suited Liverpool because they play on the counter attack.

“We know as a team we can do a lot better. It wasn’t the energy, we fought and we battled but sometimes we have to be a bit more quality on the ball.

“That is part of the learning curve. We have another game on Tuesday that will be very tough. We are going to have possession there and we have to put it right.

“We have been saying it since the start of the season. I know we won our first three games but we were saying between ourselves that we can do better.

“The Man Utd game we won 3-0 but we could have played better and the Watford game was disappointing because of the attitude and energy, and it was unlike us to lose like that.

“We have not given away possession away like that for a while as it is unlike us and it is unfortunate it has happened in a big game. With the lesser teams sometimes you can get away with it but the top teams, especially the top six you can’t. We were a bit sloppy.

“Liverpool was more about what we did with the ball and I am sure the gaffer will point out a few things. Nobody likes to lose big games and now we have another big game on Tuesday.

“If we win that we boost our confidence and then we have a run of games when we will back ourselves to get some wins.

“The harmony is there, everyone is pushing each other, driving each other, but you go through spells in seasons and we have one with two defeats in a row and it is unfortunate our spell has come now.

“But we have a run coming up where we can get into a rhythm and we play game after game after game, thats what I like - game after game after game - and I can get into positions where you know where to score goals. We can change the momentum and get results again.”
